CAMPBELL RIVER

In Campbell River's Area 13, fishing conditions during the months of April and May can change between these late winter and early summer dates, depending exactly on when and where one fishes, and ones fishing success can be about as varied.

Chinook retention is now allowed until the end of April nearly as far as the head of Bute Inlet. More anglers are exploring these waters that were previously closed for over 25 years. Bear in mind the inlet is a long way from the closest communities, and boaters have to be well prepared with supplies and a back-up plan in case things go awry. That said, there can be some very good feeder Chinook fishing among truly spectacular scenery, although winter can easily make a late showing there in April.

Chinook can be caught in the lower straits above Seymour Narrows, but more usually, at this time of year, Chinook salmon fishing takes place in a broad arc across the top of the Strait of Georgia and among the islands nearby.
