COMOX VALLEY
With the steelhead season winding down and temperatures getting warmer by the day, we say goodbye to winter and hello to spring. As the hatches continue on the lakes and streams around the Comox Valley, the activity for available rainbow or cutthroat trout fishing is increased. For the avid fly fisherman, be sure to get a good look at the different hatches that are happening where you are fishing. Imitations of different larvae, nymphs, and bugs which increase chances of multiple fish days and never forget the good old standby leeches. For the gear fisherman, worms as this bait will continue to work throughout the year, especially once the hot summer weather arrives, always check your regulations for bait bans.
There is not a large, concentrated effort directed at halibut in the Comox area, but incidental halibut catches are increasing. Most halibut are in the 20 to 40-pound range and are usually picked up while trolling for salmon.
