WINTER HARBOUR-QUATSINO SOUND
Many old-timers who have fished out of Winter Harbour for decades tell us that the last four or five seasons have been some of the absolute best they can ever remember, so we all hope we see a continuation this season. During the last few years, throughout the spring and summer massive schools of pilchards, herring and needlefish have consistently held in the area from Cape Scott to Brooks Peninsula, attracting and holding hoards of migrating Chinooks and coho.
Unlike the Island's southwest coast, our deep-water contours and halibut banks begin within a few kilometres from shore. You can go out over 250 to 325 feet of water and drop your salmon gear, fish for an hour on either side of the tide, and then stop on the spot and jig for yelloweye rockfish, lingcod and halibut, and expect to do very well.
